Advertisement Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)  is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in children , with a worldwide prevalence estimated at 3-5% of school-age students (Thomas et al., 2015). Psychopharmacological treatment is not effective in 18-36% of patients and can have serious side effects (Schachter et al., 2001; Dittmann et al., 2013). Low medication adherence is also a common problem among children diagnosed with ADHD. Additionally, access to specialized screening and treatment is limited in some areas. This calls for a search for alternatives for the assessment and treatment of this disorder (Marcus & Durkin, 2011).

Without reliance on medications, therapy sessions could help him improve executive functions and skills such as cognitive flexibility, working memory, and inhibitory control. However many children with ADHD experience little engagement during traditional therapy, as a result, there is a need to create more interactive experiences (Culpepper & Mattingly, 2010).

To address these issues, the authors are exploring alternative approaches, such as the application of new technologies in mental health. E-Health could contribute to the management of ADHD in children, as well as help bridge the gap in mental health care provision. Video gamesmay be particularly suitable for this purpose. Children with ADHD would be expected to have difficulty engaging in video games due to their short attention span. However, people with ADHD may focus for long periods of time on activities they enjoy, a phenomenon sometimes known as “hyperfocus.”

Video games are therefore a good opportunity to increase engagement with therapeutic interventions. The researchers proposed interventions through gamified structured activities. In this sense, there has been a significant development in therapies based on educational games coined as Serious Games.
